CONTRIBUTING TO CHARITY THROUGH MUSIC
Brought to you by Taylor’s University College’s Music Club

Once again, Taylor’s University College’s Music Club successfully organised Musical Night 2007 which was performed to a large, upbeat crowd on July 21 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the college. This annual event, with the inaugural Musical Night held last year aims to provide a platform for young, passionate and talented music students to showcase their talent to the public apart from increasing musical appreciation among youth of today.

"Music is a creative arts. Like a mirror, it reflects our thoughts, feelings and aspirations. With this in mind, the club creates another milestone this year by using this event to give something back to society. Profits generated from this event will be donated to Rumah Charis Children Home and it is our hope that this tradition will carry on in years to come," enthuses Chan Jo Ann, president of Taylor’s Music Club.

Bearing this enthusiasm, Musical Night 2007 managed to raise almost RM6000 from profits generated from sales of tickets as well as contributions from sponsors for Rumah Charis.

With its unique blend of classical and contemporary music, this year’s Musical Night was a truly unforgettable event. From pop to classical, jazz to rock, music aficionados were treated to an enchanting evening of diverse music styles.

The night kicked off with a commendable performance by Taylor’s String Ensemble, featuring a solo flautist. This was followed by an entertaining dance specially performed by children from Rumah Charis. A powerful rendition of Hero and Memory by Janice Chiang later further mesmerized the audience.

The Dwn and Telephony Delivery provided the rock element for the night. The two bands, each with their own distinctive styles certainly had the crowd going.

Another band, Awakening Emotion literally brought the house down with its unique fusion of jazz and disco music. With Chee Chao on the organ, Chin Suet playing the piano and Kuvendran Vyanan, the saxophonist, the three musicians jazzed their way to the hearts of the audience with September and a Disco Medley.

However, amidst all these genres, classical flavour was still maintained with piano solo performances by Jo Ann and Chia Zheng Hwuang. Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.5 in C minor (1st mvmt) provided a tragic feel which touched the audience. Her next piece, Danza del gaucho matrero (“Dance of the Arrogant Cowboy”) - a 20th century song by Argentinean composer, Ginastera was delightfully delivered by Jo Ann in all its wild and furious nature. Zheng Hwuang then toned down the atmosphere with Valentine and Variations on a Kanon giving just the right touch of romance.

A Petaling Street Love Story – a short musical produced by members of Taylor’s Music Club was also well received by the audience. Centred on a beautiful, aspiring nightclub singer forced into marriage with an arrogant Dato’, the musical chronicles the challenges and conflicts faced by the girl in order to be with her true love. Come What May, the ending song left audiences feeling somewhat touched and subdued.

When our guest performer, popular and talented local artiste, Chan Kwok Fai stepped on stage, the crowd screamed and went wild. The champion of Astro Talent Quest 2005 performed several tracks from his debut album – VOIS, leaving the audience clamouring for more. An autograph signing session followed where fans of his grabbed this opportunity to meet him in person and have some pictures taken with him.

That night, it was not all about music only. As music is synonymous with dance, there was also a hip-hop dance performance by the first runner-up of the Inter-College Dance Competition – Mirage. Besides that, students from INTEC came up with an interesting modern dance complete with weird hairdos and funky costumes.

Hopefully, next year’s turnout will be even bigger with more top-notch performances by the students.

Hi everyone!!!

We'll be having our Musical Night on the 21st of July. Therefore, there'll be a General Meeting for ALL members of Taylor's Music Club to elect a committee for Musical Night, discuss matters; performances, etc etc etc...............................

Details of AGM:

Date: 10th May 2007 (Thursday)

Venue: Lecture Theater 7 (C floor, opposite the staff room)

Attendance is COMPULSORY, whether you're in strings, choir, rock, or divisions-yet-to-exist...

Also, we will be holding auditions for Musical Night performances. This is open to ANYONE who can sing, dance, play any kind of musical instruments, or perform in any way at all. Performances can be individual, duet, group; its really up to you guys.

0701 intake members from Strings Ensemble promised our teacher advisor to perform during CNY event and we are going to play Canon in D.

So far only 4 students collected the music sheets from me and other le ?? So all the best everyone, enjoy your CNY.

we are going to play violin 1 because we have no time to arrange violin 1 , 2 and 3. The music sheets is a bit weird because it combines violin 1 till 3 and cello. So all the best.

First Choir Division AGM

So today we've discussed about the time for the choir weekly practice and the money we have to pay to the coach. And the results are :

A) The money that have to pay monthly is RM40

B) The weekly practice is on Wednesday, 4~5pm.
I know some of you either have to catch a bus larh, or have tuition larh but sorry to say it's impossible that i can make it a day that exactly everyone to come. So what I can say to those that cannot join is I AM SORRY ABOUT IT.

So if there's no further problem I think we'll start the choir after Chinese New Year. And the attendance and the number of people will be counted from that day and after all you all have to come every practice. Mail me or sms me if you cannot make it for the first practice, as I said this first practice is a MUST of you to come. So, you MUST COME. Please text me or mail me if you can't make it because of the day and the time or you have any own personal reason.

After here and there...there and here. Finally !!! Music Club ~ Strings Ensemble is BACK

Feb, 05 2007 we have our very 1st meeting.

we started with Concerto No. 1 in E major, Op. 8, "La primavera" (Spring) and I decided to show them what their seniors did last year -(musical nite).

Attention to all students that signed up into Choir Division on last AGM :

Please take note that we are going to hold a meeting in the future discussing about these few things :

a) The New Choir Teacher
- The name is Miss Lim, a very experienced teacher that teaches student for choir and solo singing, the team she taught had sat for the London board choir exam (eg : ABRSM, LCM)

b) Set up the day and time for the weekly practice

c) The monthly fees
-the fees are paid either in
~Rm40 per person monthly or
~RM300 per section divided by the members
We'll decide depends on how many people in it and which one more worthy for us.

d) Others

Keen To Learn
First, You have to really keen to learn choir singing. There's no point you attend classes and pay just to kill your time and so. Furthermore, the choir's progressment will be affected because of your lack of enthusiasm about it. I've experienced this therefore I dare to say it here. So take note, you be there because you WANT TO learn, not because you WILL TO learn after you signed up and regret for signing up and stuff, NO. So please be aware of this point.

Time Management and Attendance
Second, Your time management. We have to comes up with a time that everyone can come.
Choir work as a team, the harmony might be different without you there and we have to ake time to readjust the harmony again. So we have to discuss the time with the coach that you all MUST spare that period for choir, every week.

Part singing, Experience
Majority of you that joined choir has past experience in singing, which I am very happy to see.But still we have to do the part arrangement test with you all before we start everything. But for those that has no experience in Choir, not to be worry you can still join choir which you have to sing in Unison Tone.

Practice
what else to elaborate? Practice larh.
